FAQs

I’m interested in visiting. What should I know before I arrive?

We’re excited you are considering visiting our church! We encourage first time families to enter at our Preschool Entrance (by the canopy facing Toronto Road). Here, one of our team members will greet you, guide you through the registration process, and help your child get to the right place.

Upon check-in, your child is given a security tag, and the guardian is given a pick up tag. You will not be allowed to pick up your child until the numbers are matched on these tags. Additionally, all of our volunteers undergo a background check and child protection training.

After your first visit, your information will be entered into our check-in system. After your first week, you are welcome to use the self-check in kiosks in the Kids Welcome and Check-In Area.

I'm a new parent. What can I expect on Sunday mornings?

We understand as a a new parent, bringing your child to church for the first time can be overwhelming. At Porter, we offer childcare rooms with dedicated volunteers that provide a safe and welcoming environment. Parents are encouraged to bring any necessary items that your child needs during their time with us. But if you forget anything, we are happy to assist you with what you may need.

We also have a dedicated room for mom and baby just outside our preschool area. Within this room there are private areas to feed and change your baby.

What should my child bring?

Infants to 2-year-olds are encouraged to bring a labeled bottle/sippy cup, snack, clothing items (diapers, change of clothes, etc..) in a labeled diaper bag/backpack. 3 year-olds to kindergarteners are encouraged NOT to bring anything, unless he/she is on a restricted diet, or has additional needed items (extra clothes, special soothing item, etc...)

How will the caregivers reach me if my child is not settling into his/her class?

If he/she is inconsolable for an extended amount of time, our staff will contact you using your cell phone number via text/call.

My child has allergies/restrictions. How will the caregivers know?

Upon check-in we ask that any allergies/restrictions be communicated to our staff, and that with your consent, a visual sticker is worn by your child alerting our volunteers. This can help ensure that your child doesn't come into contact with anything that could impact him/her negatively.

My child has special needs. What does Porter offer for my family?

If you have a child who needs extra assistance during our programming, we want to provide the necessary supports! In order to serve your family, please email us so we are aware of the specific needs of your child. Once you have emailed, our Preschool Ministry Director will reach out to make a plan for your child’s success in our ministry areas!
